Internet Bar Organization Offers Webinar and Research

By Mr. Jeff Aresty, Internet Bar Organization

As we all know, government’s everywhere are confronted with limited budgets and court systems are suffering.  Therefore, many courts are using technology creatively to increase the throughput of their caseloads.

In support of these efforts, the Internet Bar Organization (www.internetbar.org) has produced a webinar, “Redefining Civic Engagement and Dispute Resolution” (available for free at http://internetbar.org/government-2-0/ ), that showcases many of the latest innovations used by governments utilizing technology to reach their constituents at low costs.

This work has been growing both in the US and abroad. For example, the United Nations has been developing model rules for online dispute resolution systems in e-commerce cases for the past two years.  The next meeting, where the first set of model rules is expected to be adopted, will take place at the UN in New York City, New York in the third week of May, 2012.

The Internet Bar Organization is also expanding its effort to locate all innovative uses by government and courts of technology by focusing initially on the use of technology to resolve family law cases.  Anyone interested in participating in the project can contact the president of Internet Bar for further information at: jeffaresty@internetbar.org.

Those who make contact with Mr. Aresty will receive an extensive distance mediation study done in North America in 2010 that explored the feasibility of providing parties in remote, non-urban areas with access to competent, qualified family mediators through the use of information and communication technologies (ICTs).
